Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers, also known as facial fillers, are highly effective at smoothing out deep lines, such as nose to mouth lines or forehead lines to restore a softer and more youthful appearance.

Cosmetic filler injections can also be used to enhance definition and volume in lip enhancement treatment, which has become one of the most popular applications of dermal fillers.

The new generation of deep and long-lasting fillers, such as Juvederm® VOLUMA® allow larger areas such as cheekbones, jaw, chin or facial hollows to be filled, with results lasting up to 18 months.

Dermal Fillers Frequently Asked Questions

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are medical gel-based solutions that are used to plump up and fill wrinkles and lips and also to restore facial volume.

The original dermal filler was animal based collagen. However, most commercially used fillers currently used and all used at Quinn Clinics are non animal based.

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally  occurring sugar present in human skin. It is extremely hydrophilic. This means that it attracts and holds water. It is in this way that the product leads to a plumping effect in the treated areas. Commonly used dermal fillers include Restylane®, Juvederm Ultra® and Teosyal.

What are they used for?
Dermal fillers are most commonly used in the lower part of the face. They are used to improve the appearance of nose to mouth lines and so called marionette lines, which extend downwards from the corner of the mouth and create a sad looking appearance. They are also used to improve lip definition and volume and are very effective in treating bleeding lipstick lines above and below the lips.

Increasingly dermal fillers are being used as an alternative to surgical procedures such as a facelift. Fillers can be used to restore facial volume and a more youthful, rounded appearance. Quinn Clinics have extensive experience in the use of dermal fillers for facial revolumisation.

Dr Quinn has previously been chosen by Allergan as a national trainer for their Voluma product and works closely with top manufacturers on the latest developments.

What are the possible side effects?
Common side effects after dermal fillers include temporary redness, swelling and bruising. Redness usually settles within hours. Swelling and bruising typically settle within a few days. Bruising lasting longer than a week is possible but uncommon.

Rare side effects related to dermal fillers include allergy, granulomas and very rarely damage to blood vessels leading to tissue damage.

How long do dermal fillers last?
Results from Dermal Fillers last anywhere between 6 and 12 months. Duration depends on a number of factors including the area treated and the amount used.

Juvederm Voluma results can last up to 18 months.

What experience do Quinn Clinics have?

Dr Quinn has years of experience using Dermal Fillers such as Restylane, Hydrafill, Teosyal and Juvederm Ultra in Bristol and Dublin.

He has performed thousands of these treatments and has received personal training from some of the top physicians in the field.  He is now an Allergan accredited trainer, sharing his expertise with other practitioners.

How much do dermal fillers cost?
At Quinn Clinics we use Juvederm Ultra® and Emervel®. Prices charged per area – see our skin treatment prices for details.
What about BOTOX®?

BOTOX® is an injectable treatment which works by stopping muscle movement, so that the skin can relax and lines are erased. BOTOX® works on dynamic muscles, while fillers are used to tackle deep lines by adding volume.

The two treatments may be combined for a non-surgical face-lift.

Dermal Fillers Consultation

The first step of the process to having any cosmetic treatment at Quinn Clinics is to arrange a consultation with Dr John Quinn. This entails a detailed examination and discussion of what you are trying to achieve, as well as taking a medical history.

Only then can Dr Quinn recommend the most appropriate treatment to suit your needs. He may advise an alternative procedure or combination of approaches if that could lead to a better outcome or be more suitable for the patient.

“I keep coming back to see John because he’s just simply the best… Quite a lot of people that will come here through my recommendations because he’s very trustworthy. I think a lot of people are concerned that they’re going to look plastic, that they’re going to look false but John concentrates on a very natural look to enhance what you’ve got… he’ll always make sure that you look beautiful.”
