Broken Veins

Laser Treatment for Broken Veins

Thread Veins, also known as Red Veins, Spider Veins, and Broken Veins, is a common problem that affects people of all ages and groups.

Whether they appear on your face or body, thread veins can affect your confidence even though they are usually not painful or harmful. The good news is that we can help you get rid of them quickly and effectively using our advanced Laser technology.

Facial thread veins

Facial thread veins are tiny blood vessels that run close to the surface of the skin. They look like thin red or occasionally purple or blue lines and appear when blood vessels become enlarged, causing the veins to appear broken.

Leg thread veins, also called spider veins, can appear on the skin’s surface. They can appear blue, purple or red in colour and are thin lines that look a little like a web or branch. They are usually not painful or harmful but can be annoying and affect your confidence when you want to bare your legs, particularly in the summer months.

Thread veins are different from varicose veins, which are larger and deeper, may appear lumpy or twisted, and are usually flesh-coloured or red.

If you have leg veins that bother you, our skin experts can treat this condition quickly and effectively.

***Please be aware that we do not treat Varicose Veins at the clinic.***

Our Laser Technology for Thread Vein Removal

We use the Cutera Excel V+ laser system to treat thread veins and pigmentation effectively.

HOW THE LASER WORKS

Laser treatment is a safe, effective way to banish thread veins. The light from the laser is directed at the veins, causing them to heat up very quickly. This heat causes the vessel wall to shrink and permanently close. The damaged vein gradually dissolves and is removed through the body’s natural immune system, leaving the skin smooth and clear. Because the laser beam is so tiny, veins can be treated accurately and relatively painlessly.

The treatment is quick and comfortable, and results may be immediate.

What is the treatment process, and how many sessions will I need?

This will differ depending on the size and number of thread veins. Following consultation with our Doctors, we will provide you with a bespoke treatment plan.

Often we recommend between 2-4 treatments carried out at 4-8 week internals.

Prices from £295.

Vascular Treatments FAQ

CLOSED STATE
Does it hurt?
The treatment is not painful. Some heat can be felt during treatment, but this disappears immediately.

After treatment you may experience a warm and slightly burning sensation. This can usually be reduced with a cooling post-treatment cream or cool pack.

How long does a treatment take?
How long a treatment takes depends on the number of treatment areas and their location. In most cases it takes a few minutes, but for large areas it can take a little longer.
What is the treatment frequency?

Treatments are spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. This allows time for the previous treatment to work. On average:

  • 1-3 treatments are required to remove pigmentation
  • 3-5 sessions are required to remove thread veins

However, the number of treatments can vary – your practitioner will advise you.

What should I do before and after the treatment?

It is important to avoid sun exposure and fake tan for several weeks before and after any laser treatment.

Your skin must be protected from sunlight for up to four weeks either side of treatment.

If this is unavoidable you should use a sunscreen, at least factor 50. You cannot be treated if your skin is tanned.

What should I expect after thread vein treatment?
Immediately after treatment, treated veins may have immediately disappeared. The surrounding area is often slightly red and there may be some mild swelling. This should settle within a number of hours. It may take several weeks for the treated veins to disappear completely.
Are there any side effects or risks?
Your skin may feel warm during and after treatment.

As with any laser treatment, there is a small chance that damage to the skin will occur. This may cause a burn and/or slight colour difference in the skin. However, this discoloration will typically improve over a number of weeks to months.
