non-invasive fat blitzing

Quinn Clinics based in Bristol now offers a range of fat-busting, body toning and muscle building treatments that can radically change the profile of the most difficult areas using advanced equipment and technology.

The Body Contouring Centre is unique in the area, as Quinn Clinics is the only clinic in Bristol and indeed the whole of the South West to offer not one but three advanced non-surgical treatment options, specifically designed for body shaping and toning:

  • CoolSculpting – the famous non-surgical liposuction or ‘fat freezing’ treatment, which uses intense cold to destroy excess fat cells. Treatment could reduce lower abdominal fat cells by 27% after six months.
  • EXILIS ULTRA 360™ – this NEW non-surgical body toning treatment uses ultrasound and radiofrequency to break down fatty deposits then tighten, tone, shape and lift for a firmer and smoother silhouette. This treatment addresses loose skin as well as fat for a great result.
  • EMSCULPT – the latest addition to our Body Contouring Centre is this non-surgical muscle building and fat burning treatment. Stimulating muscle development as well as addressing fat is a great way to promote a leaner and more toned physique and body shape.

The choice of treatments allows clients to choose the most appropriate for their needs, taking into account current shape and tone, desired results, history/background (e.g. weight gain, weight loss, pregnancy, injury) and lifestyle factors (e.g. activity, diet). A consultation and discussion with one of Quinn Clinics’ expert team helps to determine the best treatment programme based on all these factors as well as a physical assessment.

The choice of 3 treatments means that there is something for everyone. Treatments can even be combined in a programme that is tailor-made for optimum results – for example, kickstarting the weight loss with CoolSculpting before moving on to develop muscle using EMSCULPT.

Diet & Exercise

The good news is that once fat cells have been destroyed, they’re naturally expelled by the body’s metabolic processes and they’re gone for good. However, in order to maintain best results, it is important to maintain a healthy approach to nutrition, hydration and activity.

Quinn Clinics based at The May Wellness Centre in Bristol also offers services to help clients address those vital lifestyle factors which determine body shape in the longer term:

  • Dietitian & Nutritionist – Sophie Claessens is a highly qualified HCPC Registered Dietitian (dietician) and Nutritionist. She works with clients on a one to one basis, helping them to reach their goals; whether that is weight loss or difficulties with intolerances/allergies.
  • Innervate Private Gym – The May Wellness Centre boasts a fabulously equipped private gym which is designed to support clients every step of their fitness journey, from first nervous class or induction to regular attenders building high levels of fitness. Innervate offers a range of classes and services, including:

So alongside the innovative non-surgical body contouring treatments, the clinic is there to provide the lifestyle services clients need to support their success maintaining results in the longer term.

New EMSCULPT™ body toning treatment is now available at Quinn Clinics’ Redland clinic in Bristol.

EMSCULPT logo

This treatment takes a unique approach to refining and reshaping the body helps to refine and reshape the body. Not only does it burn excess fat but it also promotes muscle for a lean and fit profile.

Other body shaping treatments tend to focus on fat or loose skin. By building muscle, EMSCULPT™ offers an additional aspect, helping to create firmer and more toned physique.

It is ideal for clients who already work out or eat well but want to improve shape or tone. Even if you have less than an inch of pinchable fat you could benefit from EMSCULPT™, enhancing body shape through developing muscles as well as getting rid of any excess fat.

Popular treatment options include:

  • Non-invasive bottom lifting – a world first for tighter buttocks without surgery
  • Non-invasive stomach toning –  firmer and more toned abs/stomach area without surgery
  • Non-invasive gynaecomastia – male breast reduction treatment without surgery

EMSCULPT™ might sound too good to be true, but this treatment is backed by extensive clinical evidence and professional reviews.

How Does EMSCULPT™ Work?

The EMSCULPT™ treatment is carried out with high-tech equipment which works to trigger exceptionally powerful muscle contractions. These ‘supramaximal contractions’ are greater than anything achievable through exercise for the majority of people. This muscle contraction puts the muscle tissue under intense conditions and forces it to adapt quickly, promoting deep remodeling of the muscles internal structures as well as burning isolated pockets of fat.

The unique combination of muscle building and fat burning is extremely beneficial to promoting a fit and strong physique.

EXILIS ULTRA 360

Quinn Clinics is pleased to announce that New EXILIS ULTRA 360™ treatment is now available at the Redland clinic in Bristol.

EXILIS ULTRA 360™ is a unique non-invasive alternative which combines ultrasound and radiofrequency treatment for body shaping and tightening, head to toe; as well as skin rejuvenation and facial treatments.

EXILIS ULTRA 360™

Quinn Clinics has selected the EXILIS ULTRA 360™ as the best, gold standard medical treatment solution for patients looking to achieve results in tightening and toning.

The EXILIS is first and only device to simultaneously combine radio frequency and ultrasound to tighten skin and address body concerns.

This is ideal for any adult patient looking for cosmetic improvement on the face and body including tightening skin and improving cellulite or lack of tone.

Skin Tightening

  • On average, women will incur 80% of their sun damage prior to turning 20
  • At 20, collagen production will decline by 1% per year and skin thickness will decrease roughly 7% every 10 years
  • EXILIS treatment helps to maintain a more youthful appearance and/or repair skin

Body Shaping

  • 90% of women have cellulite due to fat, fibers, blood flow and fitness levels
  • Cellulite doesn’t necessarily mean you’re overweight – it affects slim people too
  • EXILIS treatment helps to tackle fatty deposits as well as promote new collagen production for smoother, tighter skin
  • This treatment is ideal for use following Coolsculpting, to eliminate further fat cells while triggering a natural lift and contouring the body shape

How Does This Treatment Work?

Radiofrequency and ultrasound energy are delivered to the targeted area, where they warm the layer of excess fat cells and cellulite. The heat breaks down fat cells which are then expelled by the body’s metabolic processes.

In addition to breaking down fatty deposits, the heat stimulates fibroblasts in the skin, building new collagen and elastin for smoother and tighter skin.

Mrs Claire Langton Hewer

Mrs Claire Langton Hewer ENTConsultant ENT Mrs Claire Langton Hewer has joined the team at Quinn Clinics in Bristol, where she will be offering non-surgical rhinoplasty (nose reshaping).

Mrs Claire Langton Hewer BM BCH (OXON) MA (OXON) FRCS ORL-HNS is very highly qualified and experienced. Her surgical training in London included posts at The Royal Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital and she is a member of the Member of British Rhinological Society  as well as Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England

At Quinn Clinics, she specialises in non-surgical nose reshaping procedures using Juvéderm® VOLUMA, which is one of the latest generation of premium long-lasting dermal fillers.

Why Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty?

Many patients are dissatisfied with the shape of their noses. Common issues include:

  • Bumps or humps
  • Narrow or wide shape
  • Lack of projection
  • Large looking nose
  • Asymmetrical or lopsided shape

Surgery is the best known option but it is radical. The procedure is carried out under general anaesthetic requiring a hospital stay. Dressings are likely to be required for a week and short term bruising and discomfort are to be expected. Recovery guidelines suggest that it will be a year before everything settles down. It’s expensive too.

Unless there is a medical issue to be resolved, the non-surgical nose job is faster, cheaper, safer and offers instant impact with minimal side effects or recovery issues.

Use of dermal fillers can address many of the common nose shape concerns – even making a large nose look smaller by blending its profile to fit the face better.

Non-Surgical Nose Job Pricing

  • The initial consultation with Mrs Claire Langton Hewer is £50
  • Non-surgical rhinoplasty (nose job) using Juvéderm® VOLUMA with Mrs Claire Langton Hewer £700

lip-injections.jpg

lip filler injections

The government’s Department of Health & Social Care has launched a new campaign to help clients make safe and informed choices about cosmetic procedures.

The department’s press release explains the reason for this initiative, saying:

“The campaign comes amid a rise in demand for procedures including BOTOX® and dermal fillers and growth in unregulated companies offering cheaper services.”

Concerns have been growing about the risks that clients are exposed to in a market which lacks regulation. Many clients assume that practitioners are medically qualified and trained in aesthetic procedures, yet there are no current requirements for this and it is quite legal to inject BOTOX®, dermal filler or lip fillers without having any relevant qualification or training.

As botulinum toxin is a prescription medicine, there are requirements for this to be prescribed for the individual patient, but there is evidence that this doesn’t always happen either. Dermal fillers require non prescription.

As the press release explains:

“The campaign comes amid concerns about the number of women experiencing serious side effects or other harms. It encourages people to choose a suitably qualified and professional practitioner for their treatment.”

Another concern relates to the growth in demand:

“The increasing affordability of cosmetic procedures, celebrity endorsement and the growth of social media have resulted in a significant increase in the number of women having Botox, dermal fillers or surgical interventions such as liposuction or breast augmentation in recent years.

The press release explains that this is making the market more competitive with inappropriately aggressive marketing, discounting and unregulated companies offering cheaper services.

Health Minister Jackie Doyle-Price said:

“Many people don’t think fully about the consequences – both physical and mental – of having a cosmetic procedure. These are serious treatments, and you should think carefully before you leap in.

She continued

“…we also need people to do their homework on the company or individual carrying out the procedure – if a deal looks too good to be true, then don’t be afraid to walk away. The consequences of botched procedures can be dreadful.”

NHS Advice on Cosmetic Procedures

The government has compiled new advice, published on nhs.uk, which lays out the key points for awareness and consideration before having cosmetic injections:

  1. Be clear about why you want to change the way you look
  2. Speak to an expert about the procedure – book a consultation with a practitioner to discuss your requirements and learn what to expect
  3. Do your research on the procedure you’re interested in
  4. Understand all the costs involved – including any aftercare and future maintenance
  5. Choose a reputable, safe and qualified practitioner who is trained, experienced and has correct insurance
  6. Ask questions to get as much information as you can on the procedure, products and potential issues
  7. Be cautious with social media as ‘Social media influencers are usually paid to advertise the service’
  8. Take time to think it through and make the right decision. You should be offered a cooling-off period after your consultation
  9. Remember, you can walk away if you’re not completely comfortable

frown-lines-treatment.jpg
21/Sep/2019

frown lines treatmentBOTOX® (Botulinum toxin type A) is the world’s most popular non-surgical treatment. After 30 years of aesthetic and medical use, manufacturer Allergan plc has announced that is has now produced over 100 million vials of the product – 2 significant milestones.

BOTOX® has a host of aesthetic and therapeutic uses.

The most popular and well–known is its use for aesthetic anti-ageing treatments, tackling the signs of ageing in 3 main areas:

  • Glabellar lines – those vertical lines that appear between the eyebrows especially when frowning
  • Forehead lines – horizontal wrinkles that are even more noticeable with eyebrow movement
  • Crow’s feet or laughter lines around the eyes, especially when smiling

BOTOX® Anti-Ageing Injections

However, BOTOX® has a host of medical uses as well.

Quinn Clinics also offer BOTOX® treatment for sweat reduction or hyperhidrosis – a condition which causes misery and embarrassment for patients not only in the warmer months but year round. Injecting botulinum toxin into the underarm area dries up the excess sweat problem within a few days and gives patients months of relief.

Other less well known uses of BOTOX® include use by healthcare practitioners to treat various neurology and urology conditions such as:

  • Crossed eyes, also known as strabismus, twitching or spasm of the eyelids or lazy eye
  • Chronic migraine
  • Overactive bladder
  • Bell’s Palsy
  • Drooling
  • Muscle contractions

These are specialist medical uses not available at our Bristol clinic, but it illustrates how potentially powerful BOTOX® can be for therapeutic use as well as cosmetic.

The principle by which BOTOX® works remains the same for all procedures – that is to relax the muscles by preventing signals from the nerve cells reaching muscles. So it seems likely that scientists will find more uses for this drug in the future; as Allergan continues to work with researchers, scientists and doctors to find new medical uses for botulinum toxin.

Mitchell Brin, SVP Global Drug Development & Chief Scientific Officer at Allergan said:

“After 30 years of studying this drug we have a large safety database and based upon our understanding of the mechanism of action and the safety profile, we are now moving into other disorders that I would say that two decades ago I would not have anticipated going into.”

BOTOX® Safety

There are 148 clinical trials supporting the safety profile and quality of BOTOX®.

Fat Freezing Treatment

For women who are unhappy with their ‘mummy tummy’ area, CoolSculpting offers a noninvasive alternative.

It’s an area where any excess fat tends to easily accumulate, yet the stomach can also be annoyingly resistant to diet and exercise. CoolSculpting uses intense cold to destroy excessive stores of fat for a leaner body shape.

CoolSculpting for Women Results

Female Abdomen/Tummy

The results below show significant reduction in the amount of fat stored. The belly is flatter and less round at the front while the waistline is neater and more defined.

For this patient, CoolSculpting was the ideal complement to sensible diet and regular exercise by targeting the most troublesome and resistant area.

before and after coolsculpting abs

CoolSculpting Bristol

CoolSculpting is a top brand of cryolipolysis – also known as ‘fat freezing’ and a form of non-surgical liposuction. Using special equipment, the treatment uses intense cold to destroy the excess fat cells in the targeted area. Over the following weeks, these are naturally expelled by the body’s normal metabolic processes, gradually reducing the amount of fat in the treated area. As this is a gradual process, it takes around 12 weeks for the full and final result to be completed. Tests indicate that CoolSculpting® treatment can reduce lower abdominal fat cells by 27% after six months – and the good news is once destroyed, they’re gone for good.

CoolSculpting is not a weight loss treatment – it is designed to tackle specific localised areas of fat. The midriff is one of the most popular areas for treatment, as it is an area so many struggle with but also an area which can very effectively be targeted using this treatment option

CoolSculpting is available at Quinn Clinics in Redland, Bristol.

  • Safer than surgery
  • Targets localised areas of stubborn fat
  • Destroyed fat cells are permanently removed
  • In-clinic treatment
  • Pain-free

Safe & Effective Fat Freezing Treatment

A BBC survey has suggested that nearly 50% of men aged 18-30 might consider having a procedure with 34% wanting a better stomach and chest.

The perfect torso may appeal but it can be very hard to achieve through diet and exercise, while cosmetic surgery for ‘man boobs’ is a drastic step as well as costly.

Now CoolSculpting offers an alternative noninvasive option for tackling excessive fatty deposits on the torso

CoolSculpting is far safer than surgery and faster than diet and exercise (although it should not be seen as an alternative to a healthy lifestyle!).

Also referred to as ‘fat freezing’, ‘cryolipolysis’ or ‘non-surgical liposuction’, the treatment uses intense cold to destroy the excess fat cells that can build up.

Tests indicate that CoolSculpting® treatment can reduce lower abdominal fat cells by 27% after six months – and the good news is once destroyed, they’re gone for good. After freezing treatment, the body’s natural processes metabolise and expel the fat cells to get rid of them completely. They don’t move elsewhere and don’t reappear (although a healthy diet does need to be maintained to avoid buildup of new fat).

MALE FLANKS/SIDES

This patient was keen to reduce the slight bulginess of excess fat around his middle in order to create a leaner and more toned shape. Despite regular gym sessions and good diet, this area had not responded as he wished. The results show much smoother shape with visible reduction in fat.

summer-acne.jpg
21/Sep/2019

Some acne sufferers believe that their skin is better in the summer.

summer acne

Now this ‘urban myth’ is backed by scientific evidence. A study in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology has shown that acne symptoms tended to clear up in the summer months, so more patients presented as clear or almost clear. However, the research also showed that a greater number of sufferers found that things get worse in the winter, so that the winter season saw the highest proportion of patients with moderate or severe acne.

Clear/Almost Clear Moderate/Severe Acne
Spring 16.5% 42.6%
Summer 16.7% 41.3%
Autumn 17.5% 41.9%
Winter 13.5% 45.9%

The study suggested that the seasonal warmth and exposure to daylight are beneficial to the skin while the winter temperatures and comparative lack of daylight are less beneficial.

Sunbathing for Acne?

While this study suggests that acne is improved in the summer months, experts are keen to stress that acne sufferers should be cautious about viewing sun exposure as a treatment for acne.

Over exposure to the sun can not only irritate the skin but also expose it to a range of other issues from premature ageing to an increased risk of skin cancer.

Wearing a good sunscreen is vital to protect the skin against the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays. Acne sufferers may need to choose formulations for sensitive skin, but it should always be worn.

Other Acne Treatments

For patients who struggle with acne, the latest skin technology now offers some potentially helpful treatments. Dr John Quinn, founder of Quinn Clinics in Bristol, offers a consultation which includes a review of the skin and diagnosis before recommending the best way forward.

Quinn Clinics based in Bristol has a range of advanced skin technology and potential treatment solutions. Just some of the treatment options offered at the clinic include:

  • Exfoliation: Skin peels or microdermabrasion help to remove excess oil and strip away buildup of dead skin cells. They can be a boost to acne-prone skin
  • IPL treatmentIntense pulsed light (IPL) treatment can be effective by working on the bacteria that cause acne as well as promoting healing
  • Laser treatmentLaser energy can help to reduce inflammation and promote healing and healthier skin
  • Dermaroller micro-needling: The creation of mini ‘wounds’ boosts the skin’s own regeneration, promoting healing
  • Cosmeceutical skincare: Daily use of advanced products with active ingredients can help the skin over a longer period
