Younger Looking Skin Means Living Longer

in the newsResearchers have revealed startling new evidence that women who have younger looking skin are likely to live longer.

According to the study, younger looking women could expect to enjoy:

  • lower blood pressure
  • lower risk of cardiovascular problems (strokes or heart attack)
  • longer lifespan
  • looking over 2 years younger for than those at higher risk of cardiovascular disease.

However, is this because looking younger makes you healthier, or because a healthier lifestyle contributes to younger looking skin?

Before you book a botox appointment, it is important to understand the research.

Dr David Gunn, who led the study, explained their findings

‘We identified that blood pressure was driving the link between cardiovascular disease risk and perceived age. It is the first time a link between low blood pressure and youthful looks has been proven. This finding gives rise to new ways to communicate the significant additional benefits of a healthy lifestyle.’

‘Not only this, but we also found that the feature in the face that blood pressure was linked to was not skin wrinkles but likely what we term as the “sag” in the face. The exciting thing is further investigations will enable exact pin-pointing of the feature in the face that signposts an individual’s blood pressure.’

1 in 3 adults suffer from high blood pressure which increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Study co-author Dr Diana Van-Heemst commented:

‘It is hoped the results of the study will encourage people to adopt a healthy lifestyle and to regularly monitor important health parameters such as blood pressure as the study shows that these factors not only impact health, but can also affect physical appearance.’

Younger Looking Skin Treatments

Nowadays there are many non-surgical skin treatments that can help people to look their best, but this should not replace a healthy attitude to diet, exercise and sun exposure.

Quinn Clinics based in London and Bristol is led by practising GP Dr John Quinn.

A thorough medical questionnaire and consultation are carried out before treatment to understand any underlying health issues that could affect the appearance of the skin. That way the most appropriate skin treatment can be recommended and if appropriate, medical advice may also be given.
