Essential Information Before a PDO Thread Lift

Our new MINT PDO threads offer excellent result in rejuvenating the skin by “lifting” loose or sagging tissues to a higher and more youthful position AND boosting production of collagen. So what essential information should you be aware of before booking this procedure?

A thread lift is classed as a ‘minimally invasive’ procedure. It is not non-invasive as the skin is broken in order to insert threads. Yet it is also not invasive, as it does not require an overnight stay or major anaesthetic.

Thread lifting can achieve remarkable results by inserting absorbable threads under the surface of the skin to ‘lift’ and shape it. It offers clients a more youthful appearance and defined look which is subtle, natural and effective.

Quinn Clinics in Bristol has compiled essential information for those considering a thread lift.

Why Choose MINT PDO threads?

PDO thread lift treatment areas

MINT threads have a long and excellent track record for effectiveness as well as safety. They do not require any big incisions, so this reduces the risks and makes for a quick recovery. There’s no need for general anaesthesia or overnight stay, it is very straightforward. The procedure can be carried out safely and comfortably at our Bristol clinic.

MINT PDO threads are made of polydioxanone, a material which dissolves in the body. While it is breaking down, this stimulates localised production of collagen, which adds to the finished result by improving the skin’s texture and elasticity; reducing fine lines and adding volume.

It is a versatile procedure which has a host of potential benefits beyond improving wrinkles; as it can also ‘lift’ sagging jowls, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, midface area, sagging neckline and undefined jawlines

MINT PDO Thread Lift Information

Essential Information Before PDO Thread Lift

While the benefits are appealing and the risks are low, we encourage everyone to thoroughly research the procedure before deciding to go ahead.

That’s why Quinn Clinics has published advice on potential complications, post-operative care and general aftercare. This information is included on our MINT PDO Thread Lift page and also below:

MINT PDO THREAD LIFT POST-OPERATIVE CARE
  1. You can return to everyday life (i.e. driving, eating, walking, etc.) right after the procedure
  2. Avoid washing hair and taking a shower for 24 hours after the procedure
  3. Avoid drinking or smoking for 1-2 weeks to reduce the risk of infection
  4. Avoid lying down either in a supine or prone (i.e. flat on your front or back) for 4 hours after the procedure to decrease the possibility of the movements of threads
  5. It is recommended to sleep in a proper position for the next 3-5 days to prevent manoeuvring of threads.
  6. Avoid headstands, yoga, strenuous workouts, and exaggerated facial expressions for about 2-3 weeks.
  7. Face may be bound with bandages for 1-2 days after the procedure to help with
    swelling and stability if needed.
  8. Deep facial massages should be avoided for the next couple months, however laser
treatments may be done after a week from the procedure.
MINT PDO THREAD LIFT AFTERCARE
  1. Apply SPF30 and avoid direct sunlight and tanning machines in order to prevent Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH)
  2. Gently wash the treated areas on the same day but do not rub or massage the face for 2 weeks
  3. Do not open mouth too wide for 3-4 weeks. Avoid dental treatment for 3 weeks if possible
  4. A stinging or ‘pulling’ pain or discomfort is normal. Take paracetamol 500mg 1-2 tablets 6-hourly if required. Avoid taking any anti-inflammatory medication such as Nurofen, because inflammation is necessary to initiate the new collagen formation process. Nurofen and similar medication are to be avoided as they will suppress this process.
  5. Avoid alcohol and anti-coagulant medicine (aspirin, unless prescribed for medical indications) for 7 days
  6. Avoid blood ‘thinning’ vitamins C & E for 7 days
  7. Avoid temperature extremes such as saunas or very cold climates for 10 days.
  8. Avoid physical exercise for 7 days post procedure
  9. Avoid any heat producing device Radio Frequency (RF), HIFU/Ultherapy or (laser, IPL, etc.) treatments on the threads treated areas for at least 10 weeks.
  10. Anti-inflammatory medication may be taken after 7 days.

If you start experiencing (or suspect experiencing) any sort of side effect or adverse reaction following the treatment, you should contact our clinic ASAP.

Possible complications may include infection, swelling, bruising, foreign body reaction in epidermis (granuloma) and protrusion. Extremely rarely, temporary facial nerve fallout may occur due to local anaesthetic, swelling, haematoma or pressure of the cannula or thread on the nerve. Get in touch immediately if facial nerve fallout is suspected. If you can’t reach us out of hours, go to A&E.

MINT PDO THREAD LIFT COMPLICATIONS

PDO thread lift is generally safe and effective and you may not experience any issues at all. However, all skin treatments have some risk of complications. The main complications to be aware of with PDO thread lift are as follows:

  1. Relapse – despite the thread effectively lifting areas listed (e.g. sagging jowls, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, unwanted midface wrinkles, sagging neckline, undefined jawlines); wrinkles and sagging will recur over time as you age
  2. Bleeding & bruising – like many other procedures, there is a possibility of bleeding and bruising, but it will subside after a couple days and 1-2 weeks respectively.
  3. Scars – should an incision be made during the procedure, a scar may result. Typically this would be made in the hair line to avoid showing. Typically no incisions are made, in which case this risk does not apply. Your doctor will explain the process fully
  4. Discomfort – due to threads being placed in the skin, there may be discomfort in the area
for several days after the procedure. This will lessen over time. Pain and discomfort can be managed by taking paracetamol. Avoid ibuprofen, as this can counteract some of the benefits of thread lifting
  5. Disorder of face movement – this is rare, but depending on the pulling within the SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) layer, it can affect a branch of the facial nerve and can cause disorders in facial movements. Typically recovers over time
  6. Skin necrosis – may occur if blood circulation is not sufficient
  7. Dimpling and bunching – may occur due to the barbed threads being placed inside the skin. However this can be massaged out by the provider
