They say 40 is the new 30, and certainly in terms of maintaining a youthful appearance, there are numerous options for men and women today.
Dr John Quinn explains the skin challenges that face those in their 40’s and suggests suitable and popular treatments to tackle the issues as they arise.
Fine lines and wrinkles
In our 40s, we start to notice more fine lines and wrinkles. These may be “dynamic” lines produced by facial expressions such as frown lines, and “crows feet” or “static” lines at rest such as nose to mouth lines.
BOTOX® and dermal fillers are the mainstays of treatment in this decade.
- BOTOX® works by relaxing those tiny dynamic muscles to produce a smoother surface to the skin
- Dermal fillers add volume into deeper creases, such as nose to mouth lines or the vertical crease between eyebrows
Uneven skin tone
Skin tone, texture and complexion can be improved with treatments such as skin peels or GeneO+ medical facial to improve skin quality.
Laser-based therapies offer effective new technology to to even out skin colour and help keep us looking our best.
Treat little and often
The important thing is not to do too much in one treatment session. Little and often is a better approach so as not to drastically change one’s appearance too quickly.
A common fear of patients is that their friends, family and (particularly) partners will notice, comment or judge them for “having work done”. We usually recommend starting with one procedure only and adding to the effect over several weeks or even months for a natural-looking result.
The aim should be a “Have you changed your hair?” response rather than a “What have you done?” response!
