Male Facial Anatomy and Injectable Treatments

Every patient is unique and deserves to be treated as an individual, but it’s also important to recognise that aspects of what is considered to be ideal ‘attractiveness’ do differ between males compared to females.

This means that some adjustment is required when treating men with injectable treatments such as BOTOX injections or dermal fillers, in order to avoid any potential for unintended feminisation.

For children, the differences between male and female faces are less clear, but during development and puberty, the male hormones stimulate masculinisation of the soft tissues and bony structures. This is when men develop bulkier mid face components, squarer jawlines and stronger chins, which are considered attractive; as well as deeper eyes.

Experienced Aesthetic Doctors can adjust dosage, needle position and injecting techniques to get just the right result that provides the right emphasis on key facial features.

The consultation stage is very important when treating male patients, as it’s an opportunity for the client to fully explain what features they are looking to enhance or improve, as well as what skin concerns they’re hoping to correct.

As more and more men start having regular non-surgical treatments, it’s best to find a clinician who is more experienced in recognising how to adapt treatments to suit every patient’s individuality.

BOTOX® for Men

before and after male botoxBOTOX® is a popular choice for treating wrinkles, especially where static lines have developed across the forehead (i.e. lines that you can see when the face is at rest as well as during movement).

BOTOX injections work to relax the fine dynamic muscle activity, which allows the skin to relax so that lines become softer and smoother in appearance.

These ‘before and after’ results show results that are still noticeable even a year after the injections were carried out. the forehead lines are much reduced, leaving the patient looking younger. However, the treatment was carried out without creating any ‘arch’ of the brow which is something that female patients may wish to emphasise. In addition, the treatment did not set out to eliminate all lines, but left some movement and finer lines for a natural but noticeably fresher look.

BOTOX® injections can also be used to improve the eye area, including crows’ feet/laughter lines; opening up the eye for a brighter appearance.

Quinn Clinics’ doctors are skilled in adjusting treatments in a way that enhances a patient’s features, so in the case of male patients, treatments are adjusted to respect any physiological differences for a result that is flattering as well as anti-ageing.

Dermal Fillers for Men

While more men tend to choose BOTOX, there are also growing numbers using dermal fillers to freshen up the face and tackle the signs of ageing.

The ‘before and after’ video below demonstrates how dermal fillers can be used to achieve a natural-looking result that subtly refreshes the face for a younger look, while avoiding any risk of losing the essential features of the male face

Dermal fillers were used to smooth out the deep lines and creases while not going too far to ensure that the result stays natural-looking. The ‘less is more’ approach means that a relatively small amount of dermal filler was used in order to achieve the result, making treatment surprisingly quick and cost-effective. It can be an excellent option alongside BOTOX® for a more comprehensive treatment and a fuller rejuvenation impact.
