Expert Advice on Facials in Woman & Home

Featuring Dr John Quinn

woman and homeWoman & Home published an article on the benefits of ‘pro facials’ with expert advice from Quinn Clinics founder Dr John Quinn on how often to have them as well as what benefits you might expect depending on which facial you pick.

The feature by beauty journalist Emma Stoddart is entitled:

‘How often should you get a facial? Aesthetic doctors reveal the ‘sweet spot’ for your best ever skin’

Recommended Frequency for Pro Facials

Dr John Quinn told Woman & Home that he recommends a monthly facial for best results, explaining:

“This is an optimum time frame because most people have a skin life cycle of 28 days.

“Given the time it takes for skin to regenerate itself, it’s not always advantageous to have too many professional facial treatments too close together.

“You run the risk of aggravating the skin, which can cause a number of skincare complaints including sensitivity, redness and inflammation.”

Optimum facial frequency varies from person to person. Those wtih oily skin may benefit from more frequent facials and those with sensitive or dry skin may be better to have them less frequently.

Dr Quinn continues:

“In order to achieve healthy, glowing skin through facials, it’s essential that you are guided by your skin professional to establish an effective treatment plan timeline for your particular skin.”

Professional Facial Treatment Options

There is now a plethora of choice for clients who wish to benefit from a medical facial and it can be confusing to know where to start. The good news is that there’s something for everyone, as Dr Quinn says:

“We live in an age where there are a number of different facial options available to suit all skin types and complaints.”

The Woman & Home feature breaks pro facials down into the following categories:

Chemical peels:

Dr John Quinn explains how facial peels are a popular option for exfoliating the skin:

“One of the oldest methods of skin resurfacing. These vary from superficial to deep, with superficial forms generally being included as part of a facial.

“They can be effective in learning how to get rid of acne and for general skin improvements but are quite operator-dependent.”

Microdermabrasion

Dr Quinn says microdermabrasion is another exfoliating option which removes the upper layer of skin to improve cell turnover and reduce fine lines and large pores:

“Another method of superficial exfoliation, this time physical, typically using crystals,”

Hydradermabrasion

The HydraFacial system combines a number of steps for a comprehensive treatment. Dr Quinn comments:

“Essentially an updated version of microdermabrasion, this treatment is commonly known as a Hydrafacial.

“It combines a light chemical peel with the benefits of microdermabrasion.”

Laser skin resurfacing

Quinn Clinics offers a range of laser and IPL technology. Dr John says:

“The gold standard of skin resurfacing has traditionally been limited by pain and downtime.

“But new and exciting technologies, such as LaseMD, use effective wavelengths both for gentle resurfacing and to introduce effective ingredients into the skin.”
