sun-exposure-skin.jpg
20/Feb/2018

Sunspots are one of the commonest signs of ageing.

sun exposure skin

The medical term is ‘solar lentigines’ and these are one of the earliest signs of ageing as they are precipitated by overexposure to the sun. These areas of pigmentation are caused by sun damage from UVA and UVB rays in a process known as ‘photoageing’. As well as pigmentation, the skin can also appear rough, wrinkled or loose and thread veins may be more apparent.

Sunspots in Winter

While sunspots are associated with summer, they can be more problematic during the winter, when the contrast between pale, untanned skin and the blotchy pigmented areas is at its greatest.

Winter is therefore a great time to look at having sunspots treated, as they are so easily identifiable.  It also means that the skin is less vulnerable to further sun exposure so it can recover more easily with less concern about further sun exposure, although sunscreen must still be worn in order to protect the newly treated skin from further damage.

Sunspot Treatments

Traditionally, sunspots were quite difficult to treat, with lightening creams or cryotherapy (freezing) being considered the main options, neither of which are entirely satisfactory. However, the latest technological developments give practitioners a number of options for treating sunspots with options including laser and IPL. Laser treatment has significantly improved the results of sunspot treatment, offering an option which is effective but also safe in the right hands.

  • Laser treatmentLaser energy works to break down the excess pigment within the sunspot.
  • IPL treatmentIntense pulsed light (IPL) treatment can be effective on smaller sunspots or freckles.
  • M22 Multiple Skin TechnologyCombines  IPL, fractional non-ablative skin resurfacing (ResurFX™), Multi-Spot™ ND:YAG and Q-Switched Nd:YAG for a highly effective and comprehensive treatment. This high tech solution arrived at Quinn Clinics during Spring 2017 and has become a firm favourite.
  • Dermaroller micro-needling: The creation of mini ‘wounds’ boosts the skin’s own regeneration, promoting healing while also tackling pigmentation.
  • Exfoliation: Skin peels or microdermabrasion not only erase fine lines and stimulate the skin’s regeneration, but can also improve skin tone and evenness.

Quinn Clinics based in Bristol has a range of advanced skin technology and exfoliation treatments that can help to tackle sunspots.

quinn clinics website 2018

Quinn Clinics has launched a ‘new and improved’ website for 2018, bringing the company up to date with a fresh look ahead of its relocation and expansion.

The website features the company’s new logo. This is an evolution of the previous version, utilising the same corporate green and grey theme with a much more modern interpretation, thanks to a softer and smoother design with a pleasing font/typeface.

The website itself echos the green and grey theme, but use of more modern fonts and layout make it brighter and fresher.

Consideration has been given to those many clients who use their smartphones to access the website, as it is now fully ‘responsive’ to the latest standards. This means that for those clients using it on a mobile phone, content will adapt to fit the format, even though there are now an enormous range of sizes and shapes for mobile screens.

The emphasis is on making it easy for clients to get in touch, so the addition of a contact form throughout the site makes it quick and easy for people to get in touch; while those on smartphone can simply call straightaway.

The new website comes ahead of Quinn Clinics’ relocation and expansion into new tailor-made premises at the old Redland High School for Girls music school in Redland Court Road during spring 2018. Together, the new website and new premises will provide a platform for ongoing growth and position the company strongly for continued development, leading the Bristol aesthetics industry.

New at Quinn Clinics

vitamin c serumQuinn Clinics is delighted to introduce their own exclusive vitamin C serum product.

Vitamin C serum is the ideal accompaniment to a good skincare regime such as the Signature Skincare range which was launched in 2014.

Quinn Clinics’ own exclusive vitamin C has been carefully formulated to deliver a high concentration of vitamin C within a light and easily absorbed serum.

It is suitable and beneficial for a wide variety of skin types.

9 Benefits of Vitamin C Serum

Vitamin C serum is rich in antioxidants and has a host of potential benefits to the skin.

1. Promotes Collagen Production

Collagen is naturally present in the body but production begins to slow with age.  The depletion of collagen means that skin is less plump and wrinkles/lines begin to show. Vitamin C serum can actually stimulate collagen production, which will naturally reduce and prevent the signs of aging and even start to fill in the lines and wrinkles with continued use.

2. Protection from Sun Damage

Don’t skip the sunscreen, but vitamin C serums offer some protection against damage from UVA and UVB rays.

3. Sun Damage Repair

Vitamin C is known to repair some signs of sun damage, such as age spots or pigmentation as well as lines/wrinkles; thereby promoting a more even skin tone.

4. Brighter Skin

Vitamin C serum act as a natural bleaching agent and lighten the skin. The results is a reduction in age spots, hyperpigmentation and discoloration of the skin for a brighter and more even complexion.

5. Dark Circles

Vitamin C serums can be used to lighten dark circles under the eye for a brighter and more youthful appearance.

6. Redness

Vitamin C serums can prevent and improve embarrassing redness of the skin.

7. Hydration and Moisture

Vitamin C is great for dry skin even where moisturisers have not been effective. The serum delivers a high concentration of vitamin C to boost skin health and hydration.

8. Reduced Inflammation

Vitamin C can improve inflammation and puffiness.

9. Accelerated Healing

The antioxidant properties of vitamin C serums are very helpful in speeding up the natural healing process – so blemishes and acne could benefit.

Younger, Healthier Looking Skin

The combination of the above 9 benefits is skin which looks fresher, younger, healthier and more radiant.

Signature Skincare Range

quinn clinics skincareQuinn Clinics’ vitamin C serum works well alongside our Signature Skincare range, which comprises 4 carefully chosen core products, the basis of a highly effective daily regime which is suitable for all skin types:

  1. PREPARE – Daily Cleanser with jojoba oil, antioxidant and skin softening properties
  2. PROTECT – Moisturiser for all-day hydration, with peptides to tighten and firm the skin, anti-oxidants and SPF20 protection
  3. REJUVENATE – Active Serum with AHA glycolic acid to stimulate cell renewal
  4. RECOVER – Night Cream both nourishing and hydrating with antioxidants too

The range uses clinically proven active ingredients for high performance results on a wide range of skin types.

lip-filler.jpg
20/Feb/2018

Focal Point of the Face

lip fillerThe lips are the focal point of the face and an alluring, attractive and sensual feature.

Most women want to make the most of their lips and the market for lip balm and lipstick is enormous; but these do not really tackle the fundamental shape and volume of the lips.

Nowadays, lip enhancement is one of the most popular and sought after treatments – especially in the run up to Christmas when we want to look our best.

Full, healthy and shapely lips are in vogue and many of the celebrities who have a ‘desirable’ lip profile are thought to have had some cosmetic assistance in the form of lip fillers.

Yet there are still many women who would like to achieve these plumper, more youthful, shapely and symmetrical lips, who would not dare have treatment with lip enhancement fillers as they are frightened of looking overdone or fake.

Keeping Lip Filler Beautiful Not Overdone

Dr John Quinn has carried out lip filler for over a decade and his trademark is to deliver a subtle, beautiful look which is neither overdone nor fake looking.

Key points to this are:

  1. Don’t just pump up the volume – the trout pout effect is generally a result of too much and/or poorly placed filler. Lip filler is an artform – a good practitioner can carefully shape the lips, addressing asymmetry, lines or thinness
  2. Choose the right filler – rather than a general dermal filler, Dr Quinn uses lip fillers specially formulated for lip contouring and enhancement
  3. Complementary treatments – should be considered for a more holistic and natural result
    1. Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing can tackle pigmentation and/or fine textural lines
    2. Peels can help to improve fine lines and condition of the skin
    3. BOTOX can help to address downturned mouth, gummy smile
  4. Lip hydration – certain formulations of lip filler are particularly helpful for retaining moisture and hydration – a great extra benefit in the winter, when lips are prone to drying out
  5. Consider the lips within the context of the whole face – never just in isolation. Consider how treated lips will look within an untreated face – treating other areas could make a more natural and thorough overall result

Lip Fillers Without Makeup

Finally, one of the more surprising benefits of lip treatment is that lips that have been properly and expertly treated will look so much better without makeup as well as with. Well done lips will have a good shape and proportion even without overlarge lipstick, lip liner or lip gloss.

The result is further enhanced when the condition of the lips has been improved and their context within the face as a whole considered with some accompanying work to address the condition of the skin around the lip area. This is when lips look both beautiful and natural.
