Innervate Fitness based in Redland Bristol are offering an exclusive £50 ‘Yoga Pass’ offer. 

This pass entitles clients to choose any 6 yoga classes over a period of up to 12 weeks.

Clients new to yoga might initially prefer to spread them out and that’s fine, but those getting a taste for the classes or wanting to see faster results can choose to visit more frequently.

Yoga classes are led by experienced instructor Beth Handy at our Redland Bristol fitness studio.

There’s no need to invest in top brand high spec kit. Just choose something cool and comfortable. Leggings or joggers and a t shirt that you feel comfortable in. It’s really not a fashion parade – you’ll be hot and sweaty, so practicality is more important than anything!

Everyone gets an induction in the gym to show you round the equipment and demonstrate how to use it safely and effectively. The PT will gear their tour of the gym to your needs and abilities.

The most important thing is a bottle of water to keep you hydrated. Some people also like to bring a towel to wipe away any sweat.

You can expect some attainable results with a couple of sessions a week, but may then prefer to increase sessions for faster progress. It is so rewarding to see your body respond that many people end up coming more than they’d ever expected.

The latest in our series of popular Women’s Wellbeing workshops, led by Claire Callaghan B. Pty MSc Chartered Physiotherapist and Sue Baic MSc RD Registered Dietitian. 

About This Course

Want to feel and perform better when doing exercise and events? If you are doing recreational or competitive running, triathlon, cycling or sport, our workshop will help you.

Knowing what and when to eat and training smarter rather than harder can make all the difference to performance, enjoyment, injuries and weight management. This information is different depending on what activity you do it for and the length of events and competitions. We outline what vitamins, minerals, types of food do you need and which exercises and stretches really make a difference.

This workshop will cut through the myths and present the facts in a fun, informative and practical session, exploring how both diet and strength training will help you boost performance, improve physical and mental wellbeing and reach your goals.

This workshop will explore

  • Carbohydrate, fat and protein to fuel activity – what to eat and when
  • Staying afloat: what to drink before ,during and after activity
  • Diet for optimum bone and joint health
  • Core strength and tone: regaining and maintaining high level strength through the abdomen, lower back and pelvic floor
  • Personalised, sports specific strengthening exercises to support your chosen sport and activity
  • Injuries, aches and pains to women are predisposed to, prevention and management

Trained in London, Bristol and Prague, Dr Razak offers private consultations and treatment for a range of mental health difficulties and developmental conditions.

He has worked in the mental health sector for over 15 years, with time spent working within the NHS, where he currently works as a Consultant, alongside work with private patients.

Dr Janne Rodsten is a fully qualified Counselling Psychologist who practices at The May Wellness Centre based in Redland, Bristol

The quiet and tranquil counselling rooms offer a safe and confidential space for clients to get expert help on whatever is concerning them.

Does beach body dieting work

At this time of year, there must be millions of Brits contemplating their diets in a bid to lose a bit of weight before the summer holidays. 

The internet abounds with diet plans, programmes and products which claim to help people lose weight fast. There are a lot that deliberately target those who want to look good in a bikini too!

Yet the truth is, fast dieting is not always the best approach in the longer term.

Cutting back on calories, carbs and sugars can indeed work in the short term if the only consideration is short term weight loss – but there are risks and disadvantages with these radical approaches. 

Firstly, there is a danger that drastic changes can be counterproductive.  Starving the body can slow down metabolism and lower blood sugar levels. This can increase your urge to eat and make you crave the unhealthy things too. Foods like chocolate or crisps don’t sustain us, so after the initial fix, you’ll be hungry again – so you may find that calorie goal really difficult to meet once those snacks have been taken into account.

Secondly, drastic diet approaches are often not sustainable – so after the holiday with no more incentive, it’s easy to slip back into old patterns. This can lead to a yoyo diet habit of cracking down on diet before an event rather than having a year-round healthy attitude.

There are now just over 2 weeks to go to the next Women’s Wellbeing Workshop at The May Wellness Centre.

This time, Claire Callaghan B. Pty MSc Chartered Physiotherapist and Sue Baic MSc RD Registered Dietitian will be exploring how nutrition/diet and strength training can influence positive ageing.

About This Course

Through this workshop, delegates can expect to gain a much greater insight into how food choices, hydration activity and diet can help us age well. The course leaders will provide sensible and usable top tips on what to eat; as well as a host of ideas about how to exercise most effectively for positive ageing.

Life expectancy is increasing but our health doesn’t have to decline. Recent research shows it’s possible to stay fit, active & rate quality of life as high as we age. Our genes only account for a small part of lifespan and our lifestyle can make a big difference – helping us to age well.
