‘Injectable moisturisers’ or skin boosters such as Profhilo & Polynucleotides are part of a group of new aesthetic injectable treatments used to regenerate and reverse the signs of ageing.
Let’s look at Polynucleotides First
Increasingly popular with both men and women, these injectable treatments contain two key ingredients: hyaluronic acid and purified Salmon DNA. They improve the hydration and plumpness of the skin without adding volume.
Hyaluronic Acid is a water-binding molecule that can hold 10,000 times its weight in water, found naturally in our bodies. As with collagen and elastin, this depletes as we age, contributing to volume loss and skin laxity.
The other main ingredient in Polys is predominantly derived from salmon or trout DNA, which closely resembles our own. Polynucleotides stimulate fibroblasts, promote tissue repair, enhance cell turnover, increase elasticity, and stimulate collagen production.
They can help treat areas where you wish to improve skin quality, such as upper and lower eye bags, skin and wrinkles, cheek and smile wrinkles, scars, and skin on body areas such as the neck & hands.
The procedure takes around 30 minutes, depending on the size and number of treated areas. After the treatment, patients may experience some temporary side effects, such as redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection site, but these typically subside within a few days.
- Procedure Time: 3×30 mins
- Downtime: Minimal
- Costs: from £200
- Results: Up to 12 months
Results
Skin is hydrated and plumped with a healthy, fresh-looking texture and tone. Results from the treatment can be seen within a few weeks and can last up to 12 months, depending on individual factors such as skin type and age.
Profhilo Explained
Profhilo involves having around eight strategically placed injections administered subcutaneously in the lower part of the face. Like many dermal fillers, it is based on hyaluronic acid. However, there the similarity ends.
Its main objective is not simply to add volume to the skin but, first and foremost, to utilise the hydrating qualities of hyaluronic acid. When delivered in high quantities, HA will bio-remodel collagen and elastin within the skin while hydrating it.
Profhilo lasts around 28 days in the skin, and most people see the best results around a month after their second session.
- Procedure: 2 Sessions 6 weeks again
- Downtime: Minimal
- Costs: from £250
- Results: Results last around six months, although some patients may choose to have a top-up every 3.
Dr Rachael Thomas & Dr Katie Gregory offer Skin Booster Injections at the clinic, starting from £200 for a single session.
