New figures show that lip augmentation procedures reached record numbers in the USA in 2015.
A press release from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons showed that lip enhancement is one of the fastest growing cosmetic procedures in the USA.
The number of lip implants rose sharply but lip injections – a non-surgical procedure – were part of nearly 9.2 million injection procedures in 2015, an area which has increased by over 1,000% percent since 2000.
This growth is attributed to the increased awareness of the procedure and also to the focus on image which the rise of the selfie has generated. Taking regular photos of yourself is something that couldn’t have been imagined 5 years ago, but nowadays many people take regular selfies for social media and become more aware of their own appearance.
Lip fillers are an adaptable and versatile procedure which can not only add volume to thin lips but also subtly change the shape and projection of the lips too.
Robert Houser, DO, a USA-based plastic surgeon commented in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons press release:
“A patient may not be ready to commit to something as dramatic as a facelift or eyelid surgery, but there are a variety of ways you can change the shape of your lips.”
“If a patient doesn’t like the injections, it’s fine, because within a few months they wear off and everything is back to normal.”
