What is a Cosmetic Treatment?

The term ‘cosmetic treatment’ refers to a skin treatment carried out in order to improve the patient’s appearance. 

This means that there is no medical need for the treatment, as it is about making a person look better.

Cosmetic treatments are often associated with anti-ageing and there are a range of options designed to tackle lines and wrinkles as well as skin texture, complexion and pigmentation which can also deteriorate with age.

Anti-ageing injections are the most popular area – in fact, botox is the world’s most popular anti-ageing injectable treatment, followed by dermal fillers.

However, it isn’t all about relaxing and filling wrinkles. Other treatments are designed to work from within, improving the condition of the skin by promoting collagen production and skin cell renewal. Treatments such as chemical peels or microdermabrasion gently erase fine lines through what is essentially a medical-grade exfoliation. Laser technology may also be used and this works deep within the skin to promote healing and rejuvenation.

There are campaigns afoot to put dermal fillers on a similar system in order to protect patients from unqualified staff.
