At present, dermal fillers can be administered by non-medical personnel and there is a vast array of fillers available on the market. This lack of sufficient regulation and control can expose patients to risk where unsuitable, low quality fillers are used by inexpert and unqualified practitioners.

Changes in the law in 2012 have increased the control around Botox®, so that patients need to be seen by a Doctor before having botox prescribed; which has improved the situation although it has by no means eliminated the problem.

In addition, consider that even a qualified medical professional is not necessarily skilled and experienced in administering fillers and botox®, as an aesthetic appreciation of facial dynamics is just as vital to the finished result as medical qualifications.
