Botox has certainly revolutionised the way anti-ageing medicine is practised. Indeed, it is the world’s number one injectable anti-ageing treatment and offers a more affordable and less risky alternative to more radical surgery like face-lifts.
While it may be an easier route than surgery itself, there are still those who are not too keen on the thought of a needle.
In the future, that just may not need to be a concern, as a needle-free formulation of botox is actually in development by its manufacturer, Allergan; although this is at early stages and does not yet apply to the anti-ageing uses of botox.
Allergan has signed a joint-development deal with another company, American Medical Systems, in order to make use of AMS’s “JetTouch platform”, which enables medical practitioners to administer drugs without the use of a needle to any area accessible endoscopically or percutaneously.
However, the system does not yet have FDA approval. In addition, the co-development deal is about developing JetTouch for use in treating over-active bladders, not lines and wrinkles!
Medical science continues to push forward, so a needle-free botox for anti-ageing, isn’t out of the question, but would not seem likely soon.
