Don’t Put Up with Sweat Patches – Hyperhidrosis Treatment

Excessive sweatingSweat patches are never a welcome appearance and cause significant embarrassment when they happen, yet there’s no need to put up with them – treatments are available to help.

The visible damp patches that can appear on clothing under the armpits are relatively common occurrence.

It is thought that there are currently over one million people in England are affected by a condition known as ‘hyperhidrosis‘ which is the medical term for excessive sweating (beyond what the body needs to control temperature). In a real sufferer, sweating is not affected by external temperature. It can be very severe, even in winter.

Yet many more will experience inconvenient heavy sweat during exercise or in a hot environment. In addition, ‘stress sweating’ is relatively common in the workplace. This is when the body perspires heavily due to response to pressure or a stressful situation.

Cures for Excessive Sweating

Stronger antiperspirants are a first response, but these are not always effective. They can also cause unpleasant skin reactions.

In the past, severe hyperhidrosis would be treated by surgery, either to surgically remove the sweat gland or cut the nerve supply. However, both of these options have significant potential complications as well as being costly and painful.

Now hyperhidrosis injections offer a much more convenient alternative. Using botox (botulinum toxin), the underarm area is injected to block the release of the neurotransmitter to the nerve and sweat gland, which gives the signal to sweat.

Treatment is carried out in under an hour at clinics like Quinn Clinics in Bristol and London, so patients can return straight back to work or home. The injections start working immediately, although it will take a few days to build up the full impact.

Hyperhidrosis injections will last for several months, after which treatment can be repeated for further benefit.
